About Our Founders -
Sam Ko and Tammie Cumming
Sam and Tammie developed the
ASPIRE concept and mission when
they recognized a dance competition
should not only offer professional
dancers, choreographers, and
professors of dance as adjudicators,
but also bring dance education to the
students/dancers at a level of
excellence that is unparallel to any
other organization.

Sam and Tammie decided it was definitely possible to create such a program -
and the roots of ASPIRE were planted. The resulting mission of this program
would be to concurrently establish a strong scholarship program for dancers to
attend a dance training program or to attend college.
Tammie is best known for her research and publications on historically under-
served students attending post-secondary institutions and developing and
administering large, corporate scholarshipprograms, such as the Coca-Cola
Scholars program, Michael & Susan Dell Scholars program, Wendy's High
School Heisman, and various others throughout the nation. In October, 2006,
Tammie was given a commendation from the United States Congress for her
achievements and professional contributions in education.
Tammie is proud to continue to strive for excellence in all ASPIRE Events and
pursue the vision that her husband, Sam Ko, had for the ASPIRE program.
She’s also excited to combine her love of the arts and scholarship
administration experience to assist aspiring, deserving dancers to obtain
scholarships for their post-secondary education plans or dance training
efforts. Tammie has pledged to not only establish a strong dance scholarship
program, but also direct the ASPIRE program in contributing to the extremely
important cancer research efforts at the University of Iowa Hospitals and
Clinics.
